Badrinath is one of the Char Dhams founded by Adi Guru Shankaracharya and the piligrimage is not completed unless the devotees visit once this holy place.

It is said that Lord Shiva was in his meditation when Lord Vishnu visited this place and he liked this place so much that he planned to reside here. But he knew Shiva will not allow him to be here, so he took on a form of a child and started wailing. On this Parvati picked him and tried to calm him. But this child continued crying loudly, which disturbed Shiva continuously. Now Shiva planned to leave this place and left for Kedarnath which was on a peak of Himalayas and Vishnu continued to live here as Lord Badrinath.

Badrinath is at a height of approx. 3000 ft from sea level. Nearest airport and railway station is at Rishikesh which is approximately 300 KMs from this place.

Tourist guest houses and lots of Dharamshalas are here for night stay.

Most suitable time for visit is April-June and September-October.

Vasudhara - This is a magnificent water fall, approx 5 KMs from Badrinath. 2 KM motorway till Mana Village and after that hilly path for next 3 KMs.

Hemkund Sahib - While approaching to Badrinath, Gobind Ghat is a small station. From this place one can start for Hemkund Sahib. It takes approx 6 hours for one to reach this place from Gobind Ghat. This is a holy place of Sikhs and Hindus. A lake Lokpal is on the top and Laxman Temple and a gurudwara is situated on the bank of the lake.

Satopanth - Approximately 25 KMs from Badrinath. A lake with 3 corners, which are named on 3 Gods of Hindus; Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Its believed that Pandavas followed this way for Nirvana.

There are couple of other sites to visit like Auly, Valley of Flowers, Alkapuri, Bhim Pul etc near Badrinath.
