
There are only few towns in India who have completed 1000 years of their existence, Chamba (Himachal Pradesh) is one of them. Nestling on the bank of the river Ravi, and bounded between the Dhauladhar range and the Pir Panjal, Chamba is one of the oldest princely states of India founded in the beginning of 10th Century.
There are numerous reasons why Chamba is so famous. Chamba embroidery of Himachal Pradesh manifests the skilled use of double satin stitch on the body and the stem stitch on the outlines in the polycoloured silk thread, widely known as Chamba rumals. Apart from its diverse mountain topography, Chamba is also a
well-liked destination for pilgrims as it engulfs innumerable temples devoted to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

I’d like to suggest you that winter is best period to visit Chamba as temperatures drop quite low.
Getting there:
Chamba is well connected by road to Delhi, which is about 580 k.m. It is 24 k.m from Khajjiar and 56 k.m from Dalhousie. The closest railhead is at Pathankot, 118 k.m away.The airport at Gaggal. Some private airlines provide their services as per the demands.

No doubt!! Pretty nice description… but I think you are missing one thing that is Chamba Chaugan, a beautiful grassland spread over hundreds of meters. n your suggestion about visiting the tribe in deep winters, seems lill crazy. humm!!!!!
