
The Indian tourism industry experienced 40 lakh foreign tourists this year with a spiral increase of 12.9 per cent over that of last year. This fruitful outcome has earned Rs 25,934 crore in foreign exchange, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni told to the Lok Sabha yesterday. The earnings of foreign exchange also increased by 16.9 per cent this year.
Soni said:
As many as 3.88 million foreign tourist arrivals took place till November this year recording a 12.9 per cent increase over that of last year.
Divulging the tourism ministry’s plans about the expansions of Indian tourism in overseas market, she said that government will commence three offices abroad in addition to 13 existing India tourism centres in foreign countries.
These offices have played a major role to boost the number of foreign arrivals in the last three years.
