Lack of proper tourist infrastructure and connectivity to major Buddhist sites is robbing India of nearly one billion dollars (over Rs 4,500 crore) earning and a tourist swell of 400 percent as per comprehensive FICCI-ICRA study.
What remedial measures does the study suggest?
• Augmenting direct flights from Buddhist countries like China and Japan, increasing number of direct domestic flights between the sites.
• Provisions of wayside facilities, budgets hotels and guides who could speak key foreign languages.
• Improving rail connectivity within key Buddhist sites.
• Encouraging joint-venture enterprise in developing infrastructure.
• Putting world class conservation mechanism in place and issuance of multi-entry visa for the travelers.
Buddha’s journey was an incredible transformation of a prince to an enlightened teacher. He set forth to spread the light in the land and beyond frontiers. The legacy of his religion needs to be preserved by restoring the ancient sites of this religion.
