The unceasing violence in Assam has posed gravest threat for the state tourism. And if the ongoing clash between militant outfit ULFA and Indian army continues then it will sallow the tourism of sister states. Countries like US, Australia and UK has already issued warning for their citizens to review their travel plans to Assam.
The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi issued the following Warden Message:
This warden message is issued to alert U.S. Citizens traveling to and residing in northeastern India, and especially the Indian State of Assam, of the serious security threat due to a series of recent bomb attacks, reportedly by the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA). The attacks have resulted in at least three deaths and numerous injuries.
Many of the explosions were in public places, targeting power, oil and security related sites. Three explosions were in the Assam capital of Guwahati. “In light of these attacks, Americans are advised to review carefully any plans to visit the Indian State of Assam.
The state will also host national games next month and Indian republic day is barley two days away. As ULFA has threatened the government to disrupt the national games, a big massacre in the state is highly anticipated.
Terrorism in Assam is a highly significant issue in the national interest because it is shading the image of Indian tourism on international arena. Indian tourism ministry’s plan to double the influx of foreign tourists is still a distant dream until the flames of violence will not assuage in Assam and rest of the country.
